Hi I’m Anne-Marie Barrs. I am a qualified counsellor and emotional freedom techniques practitioner, based in Wolverhampton.

What do you do?

I help people explore what’s going on in their life in a safe and non-judgemental environment.
There are over 400 different types of counselling and therapy – yes 400! The good news is that the therapies I practice are flexible and I can adapt them to fit you, rather than you having to fit the therapy. (See Services section for more information about the therapies provided).
I chose to work in private practice because it enables me to see people much quicker and I can accommodate appointments at times to suit.

What experience do you have?

Since 2007, I have worked with adults from all walks of life, in a variety of settings. These include a bereavement centre, GP surgeries, the NHS, counselling charities as well as private practice.

What issues do you deal with?

I have worked with an array of issues. These include:
abuse, anger management, anxiety, bereavement, body image, childhood issues, depression, divorce, eating problems, emotional abuse, grief, illness, LGBT issues, loss, low self-esteem, midlife crisis, obsessive compulsive disorder, pain management, panic attacks, perfectionism, phobias, physical abuse, psychological abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), relationship issues, sexual abuse, sexuality, smoking cessation, spirituality, trauma, weight loss, work related stress.

• Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Level 5)
• Emotional Freedom Techniques Advanced Practitioner (accredited)
• Certificate in Counselling Skills and Theory (Level 3)
• Certificate in Counselling Skills (Level 2)

Do you belong to any professional bodies?

I am a member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Where are you based?

I am based in the Tettenhall / Claregate residential area of Wolverhampton.
It is convenient for public transport links including the number 5, 5A and 6 bus.

How many sessions will I need?

This is really up to you. You are treated as a valued individual and therefore therapy is done at your pace. You can choose to do short term or long term therapy in a safe and professional environment. Some people only need a few appointments whereas others may find they want to work on other things as well. You may not be sure how long you would like at the beginning.

How do I know counselling/therapy is right for me?

I realise it can be difficult for some people to make that first step to seek professional help. I provide a free 15 minute consultation via the telephone. It’s important that you feel comfortable with your therapist, so this gives you the opportunity to get a feel for me as well as ask any questions. It also enables me to establish whether counselling/therapy is right for you at this time.
